Falcons complete season sweep of RIT

Four games and just one won by more than one goal – that Air Force won all four against Atlantic Hockey nemesis RIT bodes well for the Falcons now and going forward.

Freshman Trevor Stone scored what proved to be the game-winning goal 1:33 into the third period, and the Kyle HaakJordan Himley tag team staked Air Force (21-8-5, 18-5-3 AHC ) to 1-0 and 2-1 leads.

The triumph pulls the Falcons to one point of Canisius for first place in Atlantic Hockey. Air Force closes out the regular season next weekend at Cadet Ice Arena with two games against Sacred Heart, while Canisius has just one game remaining.

Shane Starrett made 18 saves for the Falcons, who outshot the Tigers 31-20 one night after fashioning a 41-36 edge. Air Force is unbeaten in its past eight games (7-0-1) and has points in nine of its past 10.

The sweep also has to provide a big mental boost for the Falcons, knowing they took care of business against a team that has knocked it out of the AHC tournament the past two seasons.

Notable

Sophomore Matt Serratore, who had missed several games due to being in concussion protocol, picked up an assist on Himley’s goal. He skated with Himley and Haak, while Erik Baskin was with Evan Feno and Evan Giesler. The latter trio accounted for all four goals in Friday’s 4-2 victory.
