Government shutdown grounds Falcons

Air Force didn’t have a bye week scheduled after Christmas break. Saturday night, they got a night off courtesy of the government shutdown.

When the Falcons will return to the ice is anyone’s guess. The Flight Path will try to get more clarity on the situation and post updates as they’re available. The Falcons are scheduled to travel to upstate New York to play Niagara next weekend in an Atlantic Hockey Conference series.

Here is the text of the notice on the home page of GoAirForceFalcons.com:

Due to the government shutdown, all Air Force Academy home and away intercollegiate athletic events have been cancelled until further notice.

In the event a solution is reached, the Academy will work to reschedule as many missed events as possible.

It’s not known if Saturday’s hockey game at Cadet Arena vs. Sacred Heart even could be rescheduled. The teams already have played two games in Bridgeport, Conn., and it’s hard to see the Pioneers flying back to Colorado Springs to play one game vs. the Falcons.

Sacred Heart edged Air Force, 2-1, on Friday, snapping the Falcons’ season-high three-game win streak.
