Falcons soar in the classroom, too

Say this for Air Force’s recently graduated senior class – they know how to finish with a flair.

For the first time in their four seasons together, all eight made the Atlantic Hockey Conference all-academic team. That comes on the heels of them setting a school record for victories by a class with 86, becoming the first senior class to reach the NCAA Tournament’s elite eight twice in a row and the first senior class to win 20 games three seasons in a row.

The eight graduated seniors (Dylan Abood, Erik Baskin, Phil Boje, Jordan Himley, Jonathan Kopacka, Ben Kucera, Tyler Ledford and Kyle Mackey) were part of a school-record 19 players to be selected to the AHC’s all-academic team. In the case of the Academy, players must post a 3.0 grade-point average or higher in both the fall and spring semesters to make it.

Abood, Baskin and Himley were four-time members of the all-academic team.

Rising seniors Dan Bailey, Billy Christopoulos, Evan Feno, Evan Giesler, Kyle Haak, Matt Koch and Matt Serratore made the team, as did rising juniors Pierce Pluemer and Joe Tyran and rising sophomores Jake Levin and Max Harper.

Christopoulos, Feno, Haak, Koch, Kucera, Ledford and Serratore are three-time selections, while Boje, Kopacka and Pluemer are two-time picks. Bailey, Giesler, Mackey, Tyran, Levin and Harper achieved the honor for the first time.
