Air Force’s hockey team soared on the ice and, as it turns out, in the classroom during the 2017-18 season.

Thirteen Falcons, tied for the most among NCAA Division I men’s program’s with Atlantic Hockey Conference rival AIC, were named to the American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA) All-American Scholars team.

The Falcons included graduated seniors Dylan Abood, Erik Baskin, Jordan Himley Jonathan Kopacka and Tyler Ledford. Rising seniors Dan Bailey, Billy Christopoulos, Evan Feno, Evan Giesler, Kyle Haak, Matt Koch and Matt Serratore were joined by rising junior Pierce Pluemer.

The recognition is for players who amassed a grade-point average of 3.60 or better each semester and participated in 40 percent of their school’s games. Waivers were granted for a few student-athletes who did not play in 40 percent of the games because of injury.

This was the second year for the AHCA All-American Scholars program. Air Force had 14 individuals on the team in 2016-17.
