What can you learn from Air Force’s exhibition?

Here are a few things to watch for when Air Force takes the ice at 5 p.m. tonight at Cadet Arena for an exhibition against Trinity Western:

  1. Who’s in net? Question No. 1 in most fans’ minds is how will the Falcons replace Billy Christopoulos, the MVP of the past two seasons. Will Coach Frank Serratore go with one goalie (as he did with Billy the Greek two years ago in a similar situation after Shane Starrett‘s departure), or will there be a time share? The leading contenders this year are junior Zach LaRocque and sophomore Alex Schilling.
  2. Where do the freshmen fit? There are 12 of them. Expect three to five of them in the lineup most nights. Given the Falcons can dress more than the usual allotment of 21 skaters, expect to many of them to see action Sunday.
  3. Where will the offense come from? The Falcons have to replace more than 50 percent of their goals from a season ago. And scoring was a struggle then. Which players are put in positions to contribute more heavily?
