Senior Pierce Pluemer‘s first goal of the season lifted Air Force into a 1-1 Atlantic Hockey Conference tie with Mercyhurst on Friday at Cadet Ic Arena.

Fellow senior Trevor Stone gave the Falcons (8-17-6, 8-11-6-5 AHC) the extra point in the conference standings when he buried a power-play goal in the second overtime.

Alex Schilling made 24 saves for the Falcons, who outshot their guests 44-25.

The two points kept Air Force tied for seventh in the conference, just one point behind sixth-place Niagara and three points up on ninth-place Holy Cross. Seeds six through eight host first-round AHC playoff games.

Mercyhurst got 43 saves from Garrett Metcalf, an Anaheim Ducks draft choice who played of his youth hockey for the Colorado Rampage just up I-25 from the Academy.

Paul Maust gave the Lakers (5-24-2, 3-20-2 AHC) a first-period lead with a goal off a rebound, but Pluemer countered with a tip of Brandon Koch‘s shot with less than 2 minutes to go in the second.

Stone put in a rebound of Zach Mirageas‘ shot in the second overtime to seal it.
